At this point in the game, the stance scene, the fitment scene, whatever you want to call it; there are cars that come along that tend to stir up strong feelings. Mike DeMarco’s 91 CRX seems to be one of those cars. If you are a local you have probably seen this thing at meets, usually with the flat green battle CRX. From its seemingly undriveable ride height and spare parts bin turbo swap, this Honda has more than meets the eye.

DeMarco trekked on with his build even after a tree decided to get a closer look during a hurricane last winter. A carbon fiber front end was added to the car via Seibon fenders and a VIS hood. An Si front lip and a Mugen CF rear spoiler finish off the body mods you can see. What you can’t see are the reinforced and plated frame rails underneath the car to strengthen the unibody. The suspension was refreshed with some camber arms and lower control arms to achieve that beloved (hated?) rear fitment. The rollers are a set of (now discontinued) chrome Diamond Racing Steelies with 15×8 inch dimensions with a 165/45 Federal tire. A set of genuine Bride seats are set inside for both driver and passenger to plant their rears on.

After going through a few exhausts whilst running the NA power plant it was decided a turbo setup would allow for more ground clearance utilizing an exhaust dump right off the turbo. A spare Mitusbishi turbo and side mount were put to good use and no longer would the car be losing cat-backs to those pesky NY roads.

At the time I am writing this, I believe the car is in pieces being prepared for its next iteration. Expect some new wheels and maybe a new power plant.

Summer is quickly approaching and Winter build releases have been rampant. Release here, release there. Some worth attention, most not. Stu’s Z has been under the knife for as long as I can remember and it’s finally seeing the asphalt. Being friends and all, Amodei managed to allot some of his valuable time to shoot his gum scraping brethren and how very much appreciative we are. :drool:

Much of my young-adult life I was often told “Failing to plan is planning to fail.” I suppose it was expected to know what you want to do as soon as you could compose the thought. Myself, like many others, even as adults float(ed), degreed and competent, unsure as to what we’d like to do for a career, a job for a life time, that area people often find themselves in between. You know, after the rock and before that other hard place. I mean it’s not that I don’t exactly know what I want to do, it’s just getting there that often presents challenges, like giving up on your dream and believe me I never want to short change myself. Regardless, unlike myself, Braden Smith knew immediately upon the debut of the Mitsubishi Evolution X that he’d soon have one of his own.

Buying parts before even owning the AWD Turbo menace sounds irrational to most but to Braden it was all in the plan. With an “out-the-door” price of $28,000 to spend, most dealerships laughed but one faithful day a California retailer welcomed the modest offer and soon he met the other love of his life don’t tell his fiance that!

With most of the bolt-ons, well, bolted-on, he is currently stock piling parts to execute stage two of this saga, engine internals. Personally street tuning the car, he’s been satisfied with the current gains but the benefits of E85 have come into sight. After being harassed by the authorities while tuning the car on one of the few flat roads in Idaho, this month he’s scheduled for an AWD dyno appoint in Utah, 6 hours away! Dedication!

Experience: Summit Point, West Virginia,3 Shenandoah Circuit HPDE with Riesentoter PCA

Last weekend E and I lapped Shenandoah Circuit, Summit Point, West Virgina with the skillful RTR PCA (Porsche Club of America). The course was unbelievably technical which leveled the playing field for momentum contenders and high horse power titans. After finding my rhythm, I came across a 997 GTS on R-Compound tires. The “red midst” consumed me knowing the distinction of the car in pursuit. The result was unfavorable as my inexperience drove me into an oversteer situation I couldn’t get myself out of and into a wall. LMFAO Party Foul! Live and learn. Win some, lose some. (Insert some moral-esque quote)

As the saying goes, “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it”, so I haven’t changed much. While switching up my wheel setup has crossed my mind on multiple occasions the cost to benefit ratio never really seems to work out. Recently I’ve been spending more time in Nissan and Porsche dealerships than I have on wheel websites, which may be causing my refrain from ordering a set of SSR’s or CCW’s, or perhaps it’s the fact that I’m still unsure as to whether or not $3,000+ is really worth it. Who knows.. I’ve been in recent talks with my good friend and EFI Logics shop owner, Chris, as to what we can do to squeeze more power out of my already violent STi and more engine modifications will most likely come before a new set of bauce wheels. It might sound a little crazy to some but as with many enthusiasts who actually drive their cars over time you begin to get comfortable with the way you car pulls(Although Candice still puts an ear to ear smile on my face). Anyways, Sunday I got back from vacation and met up with photographer and fellow editor, Chris Amodei, and here’s what we came up with. Enjoy your weekend!
